Daily Driving 9 hours. Can be extended twice per week to 10 hours. Weekly Driving 56 hour maximum. Fortnightly Driving Limit 90 hours in any 2 consecutive weeks. Driving Breaks A break of 45 minutes must be taken after a cumulative driving period of 4.5 hours. The break may be split into a period of at least 15 minutes followed by a break of at least 30 minutes. Daily Rest An 11 hour rest in a 24 hour period following your last daily or weekly rest period must be taken. This may be reduced to 9 hours on no more than three occasions. This does not have to be ‘paid back’. A driver may take daily rest in the vehicle when away from base as long as the vehicle is stationary and there are suitable sleeping facilities. Split Daily Rest 12 hours rest taken in two periods. A break of at least 3 hours followed by a break of at least 9 hours. Weekly Rest Regular Weekly Rest – 45 hours. Reduced Weekly Rest – more than 24 hours but less than 45 hours. Compensation – a reduced weekly rest must be ‘paid back’ by attaching it en bloc to a Daily or Weekly Rest Period by the end of the third week following the week in question (the week when the reduced rest took place) A driver may take weekly rest in the vehicle when away from base as long as the vehicle is stationary and there are suitable sleeping facilities. Multi-Manning Within 30 hours of the end of a daily or weekly rest period a driver engaged in multi-manning must have taken a new daily rest period of at least 9 hours. The first hour of a multi-manned journey may be completed with just one driver. For the rest of the journey, the presence of both drivers is obligatory. Fixed Week From 00:00 Monday to 24:00 Sunday. For WTD purposes only. SEA CROSSINGS A regular daily rest period may be interrupted no more than twice by other activities not exceeding one hour in total. This allows you to drive the vehicle onto a ferry and off at the end of a sea crossing. If your rest period is interrupted in this way, the total accumulated rest period must still be 11 hours. In other words you will NOT be able to have a reduced Daily Rest of 9 hours. You must have a bunk or couchette available during the rest period. WTD - 30 minutes after six hours. A further 15 minutes if working over 9 hours.
